Bus Trip: Van Gogh’s Flowers at New York Botanical Garden & Lunch at Arthur Avenue On Your Own


Date: Thursday, September 25


Time: Leave the parking lot by Westfield Sunrise Mall at 8 a.m. then start to return to the mall at 3 p.m.


Price: $105.00 check, or money order, made payable to the Amityville Public Library is due with registration


Come join us as the New York Botanical Garden becomes the canvas for the colorful brush strokes of one of the world’s most revered artists during Van Gogh’s Flowers, where you’ll revel in the beauty of the flowers that inspired his iconic paintings. You’ll be immersed in botanical displays and large-scale art as you wander through a breathtaking lawn of monumental sunflowers, and see the expressive masterpieces bloom in recreations made of living flowers. After the guided walking tour and walking around the grounds on our own, we’ll head over to Arthur Avenue for lunch and shopping on your own. Then about 3/3:30 we’ll make our journey back to the mall. Note: This will be a walking tour with access to the public tram tour of the rest of the gardens. There is a bit of a walk to get to the trams.


Registration will begin on Tuesday, August 26th  for all Amityville Public Library cardholders and Friday, August 29th for all non-Amityville Public Library cardholders.

Bus Trip: Tour of Fonthill Castle & Lunch/Shopping At Peddler’s Village

Come join us as we take a tour of Fonthill Castle in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Built between 1908-1912, Fonthill Castle was the home of archaeologist, anthropologist, ceramist, scholar and antiquarian Henry Chapman Mercer (1856-1930). Mercer built Fonthill Castle as his home and as a showplace for his collection of tiles and prints.The castle serves as an early example of reinforced concrete and features forty-four rooms, over two hundred windows, and eighteen fireplaces. Fonthill Castle’s interior features Mercer’s renowned, hand-crafted ceramic tiles designed at the height of the Arts and Crafts movement. Note: Fonthill Castle is not recommended for those with limited mobility, issues with stairs, those who cannot stand for long periods of time, or those with concerns about small spaces/claustrophobia. After our tour, we’ll head over to Peddler’s Village which will be decorated for the Fall season. You’ll have time to get lunch on your own as well as visit the quaint little shops around the village. At about 3 p.m., we’ll begin our journey back to the mall.
