- Posting and Distribution
- The Library may permit leaflets, newsletters, posters, flyers or other material to be posted on the Community Bulletin Board and displayed in the literature rack for distribution to the public. Due to limited display space, the Library is under no obligation to post or distribute said material. The Library reserves the right to select notices for events with the widest appeal to its patrons.
- In order to assure fair access, the following conditions will apply:
- Posters, notices and other publicity of Library programs, events, activities and services have first priority.
- Material of community-wide interest prepared by organizations with community affiliations, and official Government announcements and communications will receive next highest priority.
- Listings of other cultural, educational or recreational events of potential interest to Library patrons may be considered, space permitting.
- A group may include an advocacy message along with the announcement of a meeting provided the message meets guidelines outlined in this policy.
- Any item or material posted or distributed:
- must clearly state the name of the sponsoring organization and contact telephone number for further information and/or clarification;
- may not include commercial announcements;
- may not include endorsements of any political candidate or party;
- may not include personal notices or “for sale” notices;
- may not contain obscenities;
- may not include anything defamatory or slanderous in nature.
- Only Library staff members may place material on bulletin board or literature display rack after prior approval of the Library Director.
- The Library reserves the right to reject material because of the size as well as content and to determine the length of time material may be displayed.
- The Library assumes no responsibility for the preservation, protection or possible damage to or theft of any notices displayed.
- Posting or display of any material does not constitute an endorsement by the Amityville Public Library.
- Petitions
- It shall be the policy of the Amityville Public Library that it shall not permit any petitions in the Library unless they are distributed by the Library and deal with Library issues on a local, statewide or national level.
