Mission
In the interest of fulfilling its mission to provide materials, programs and services that support the general recreational, informational and technological needs of the community, the Amityville Public Library provides wireless Internet access for portable computer devices, including, but not limited to, laptop computers.
Policy
Library policy and procedure will apply to access of Internet services through wireless connection while in the library or on library property. The Internet Policy , Public Access Computer Policy and Maintenance of Public Order Policy will have the most pertinent application to wireless Internet access. Use of this service for unlawful purposes, such as defined in local, state or federal law or regulation, is prohibited.
Filter
Use of this service for wireless access may be subject to the same filter criteria in use on library public access computers. Current filter criteria for public access computers in the adult department include blocking of sites which are deemed to be illegal under New York State Law or which may cause harm to the computer network. Filter criteria for public access computers in the Children’s Department of the Amityville Public Library are more stringent.
Access
The Amityville Public Library does not guarantee that all portable computer devices will be able to connect to the wireless Internet service.
Owners of the portable computer devices will need to be able to configure their own computer devices to connect to the library’s network. Library staff is not available to assist patrons in accessing the wireless network. The library does not provide wireless network cards to patrons. Library staff is not available for troubleshooting of the users’ portable computer device.
Security, Damage and/or Loss
The user understands that the wireless Internet connection is unsecured. The library is not responsible for any loss, financial or otherwise, that may occur while using the wireless connection. The library recommends that users not utilize this service to send any sensitive information such as social security or credit card numbers
The library is not responsible for any damage(s) that may occur to the portable computer device while connected to the wireless network. This includes, but is not limited to, hardware, software or data loss due to power surges, power loss, service interruptions, computer viruses, spy ware and any other type of computer malware.
The Library is not responsible for laptops or other devices left unattended or for any loss or damage sustained to the portable computer device.
