Qigong (pronounced chi kung) is an ancient Chinese form of exercise that is similar to tai chi. You will be introduced to the 18 Lohan Hands — a fluid, dance-like moving meditation handed down from the Shaolin Temple. Are you a little worried about a decline in your memory or other thinking abilities as you get a little older? You are not alone, but for most folks it’s normal aging. Dr. Christodoulou will describe normal changes in thinking abilities that occur with age and distinguish them from the early symptoms associated with dementia. He will provide an overview of dementia, with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of this general disorder. He will discuss lifestyle changes that may reduce our chances of developing dementia.

As part of Parker Jewish Institute’s Willing Hearts, Helpful Hands Alzheimer’s Disease Caregiver Support Initiative, the Caregiver Ambassador will meet one-on-one with caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s Disease or another dementia. The Caregiver Ambassador is trained to assist with information and referrals regarding caregiver programs, medical care, respite care, benefits, support groups, and more. She will offer tips on how to speak with your doctor about memory problems; and speak with caregivers on the importance of taking a break!

No registration is necessary - Parker Jewish Institute will have a table set up at the library.

On the Savvy Sightseer “SE Spain: Granada, Valencia and Barcelona” Video Vacation, you’ll find out what makes this country so interesting. There are the remains of a vast Roman city just under the surface in Barcelona, where above ground are the most oddly shaped and brilliantly colored houses designed by Antoni Gaudí – as well as his stillunder-construction masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia. The Water Gardens of Generalife at the Alhambra complex, constructed circa 1319, are world-renowned and have inspired many artists and architects. And in Valencia there is the 230’ long Gulliver strapped to the ground for today’s “Lilliputians” to lord over!

A documentary film by local filmmaker, Andrea Wozny, Bagpipes Calling! is an uplifting film celebrating local musicians, and the people and places that make them feel at home.  The film celebrates the Celtic spirit – as it lives on through the members of a lively bagpipe band from Long Island, N.Y.  Weaving together music, history and culture, the film captures a behind the scenes experience of life in the band during its most festive season. Join Andrea Wozny for a Q&A session after her 30-minute documentary.

This is a slow-paced, user-friendly class for first-time computer users. Using Windows computers, this unique class covers the basics in a way that even the most inexperienced user will understand. We will cover turning the computer on, the desktop, using the mouse, opening and closing programs, understanding windows elements, getting out of trouble, and turning the computer off.
