Writing Letters

Letters to Veterans: A Volunteer Opportunity for Teens

Starts: Monday, May 2
Ends: Thursday, June 30 @ 5 PM

Have you read any good books lately? Let us know! For

community service credit, write a review for any book that

you've recently read, which we will share on our library's Facebook page and Teen Instagram. In each of your book reviews, include a minimum of three sentences summarizing the book you read and a minimum of three sentences explaining whether you liked the book or not.

For each book review you submit, you will receive two hours of community service credit. Please note that you can submit up to three book reviews a month for a total of six community service hours per month.

Please email your book review(s) to YA@amityvillepubliclibrary.org with "Hooked On Books" as your subject line. Include your full name and grade in the body of each of your emails.

After submitting a book review, you will receive a community service certificate within 48 hours via email response. Please note that only first names will be associated with book reviews when we post them online.

Spring is in the air!  Drop by our Teen Loft anytime between 4 & 6 pm and bring a bland coloring page to life with dynamic colors! Completed works of art will be mounted and used to decorate the Loft for spring.  Earn 1 or 2 community service credits – 1 credit for each sheet you complete.

Use your artistic talents, recycled materials and paint to capture the blissful world of a carefree & unspoiled seaside!  This mural will be proudly displayed as an important facet of our “Summer Reading Club” theme.  Paint for volunteer credits (1 ½ for each session), or paint just for the fun of it!

Think you have what it takes to be crowned a Trivia Champion? If so, compete in a friendly competition with challenging, amusing questions while enjoying tasty pizza and ice cream. The winning team will earn glory (and a cool prize, too)! All interested participants will be entered into our Teen Summer Reading Club a week early and can begin submitting book reviews the day after the program.

Entering grades 7 – 12 in September?  If so, then delve into our blissful seaside summer reading experience!  Have fun in the sun with splashy books, carefree summer programs, our breezy, yet awesome challenges and ripping prizes. 

 

Receive a drawstring bag with extras just for registering and earn fun prizes for every 4 books you read.  If you report on a minimum of 4 books, you will receive an invitation to our carefree summer event - “Mini Golf & Gaming at the Library” with pizza, raffles, prizes and an end to summer Grand Raffle!  Check out our upcoming flyer for registration and other Reading Club details.

Orientation Meeting: Wednesday, June 29
7 to 7:45 p.m. 

If you wish to strive for reading dominion over all others this summer, then join our “Teen Battle of the Books”.  In this competition, participants are asked to read a chosen book, then come together to test their knowledge of that book.  At this initial meeting, individuals will receive all relevant information, and a copy of the competition book.  If you are at all interested, please attend this meeting.  Registration is essential!
