"Hooked on Books": A Volunteer Opportunity for Teens

Starts: Thursday, July 1
Ends: Wednesday, September 30 at 5 p.m.

Have you read any good books lately? Let us know! For community service credit, write a review for any book that you've recently read, which we will share on our library's social media platforms.

For each book review you submit, you will receive two hours of community service credit. Please note that you can submit up to three book reviews a month for a total of six community service hours per month.

Please email your book review(s) to YA@amityvillepubliclibrary.org by Wednesday, September at 5 p.m. with "Hooked on Books" as your subject line. Include your full name and your grade level in the body of each of your emails.

After submitting a book review, you will receive a community service certificate within 24 hours via email response. Please note that only first names will be associated with book reviews when we post them online.

Color Your Own Sweets Platter

Starts: Wednesday, September 8
Ends: Wednesday, September 22

Everyone loves sweets!  So, decorate a large plastic platter by coloring an assortment of goodies for a unique & vibrant look. Join Miss Shirley for this fun virtual program. (Also, the plate is food safe!)

 

Sign up by emailing us at YA@amityvillepubliclibrary.org with “Sweets Platter” as your subject line and your name and grade in the body of your email.  Craft kits will be available for pick up at the Reference Desk until September13 for teens who register.  We will notify you when your kit is ready for pick up.

Owl Sugar Cookies

Starts: Wednesday, September 15
Ends: Saturday, September 18

Convert plain sugar cookies into super cute and tasty treats.

 

Sign up by emailing us at YA@amityvillepubliclibrary.org with “Owl Sugar Cookies” as your subject line and your name and grade in the body of your email.  Ingredient kits will be available for pick up at the Reference Desk until September 18 for teens who register.  We will notify you when your kit is ready for pick up.

Color Our World
A Community Service Opportunity

Starts: Wednesday, September 22
Ends: Saturday, October 16 at 5 p.m.

Add a little color to the library!  For 2 hours of community service credit, celebrate National Coloring Day (September 14) and help the library become bright and cheery.   Color one of our printed sheets and we will enthusiastically display it within the library.  We will supply the coloring sheet and colored pencils, you simply supply the creativity.

 

Sign up by emailing us at YA@amityvillepubliclibrary.org with “Color Our World” as your subject line and your name and grade in the body of your email.  Craft kits will be available for pick up at the Reference Desk until September 27 for teens who register.  We will notify you when your kit is ready for pick up. 

 

Please return your finished masterpiece by October 16 to earn your community service certificate.

you've recently read, which we will share on our library's Facebook page and Teen Instagram. In each of your book reviews, include a minimum of three sentences summarizing the book you read and a minimum of three sentences explaining whether you liked the book or not.

You’re in for a tasty treat!  Concoct luscious chocolate bark filled with pretzels, Oreos, grahams & marshmallows.  Ingredient kits will be available for pickup at the Reference Desk until Monday, November 15. This kit will include printed instructions.

Join Miss Shirley & paint up some wintery cheer with a snowy scene on a navy-blue glass mason jar. Perfect for gift giving or to keep for yourself!  Craft kits will be available for pickup at the Reference Desk until Monday, December 20. You will be emailed the video link.

"Teen Scratch Off Ticket Fun"

October 10 - October 16

Celebrate “TEENtober” by visiting us at the Library and checking out our variety of materials, including Young Adult fiction, paperbacks and graphic novels.  While you’re here, check in at the Reference Desk and pick up a “TEENtober” scratch-off ticket for a chance to win a great prize.

All participants must possess a Young Adult Amityville Public Library card.  One scratch-off ticket allotted per day.

Create adoption boards with pictures, stickers, scrapbook paper and other embellishments. Boards will be donated to shelters to help promote the adoption of long-time shelter animals! 1 hour of community service will be awarded.

The Great Give Back Community Service for Teens & Tweens (AMY701)

Saturday, October 16
Grades 5 - 12

The Amityville Public Library is participating in “The Great Give Back”, a day when teens & tweens of Long Island can engage in meaningful, service-oriented experiences.

 

We will be hosting a Festive Fall Library Material Giveaway on October 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for our loyal patrons.  Materials included in the giveaway are older items withdrawn from the library collection or donations given to us by others.

 

To make our Giveaway a success, we are asking our local Teens & Tweens (grades 5 – 12) to donate 2 hours of time on this day for set up, maintenance of collections & clean-up. If you would like to help us, then please sign up for one of the following time slots: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., 12 to 2 p.m. or 2 to 4 p.m.

Earn 2 hours of community service.
